Syd CLASSIC Yearling Sale 2024

▪️current 2yo age - The “highest priced” yearlings.

♦️yearlings sold for over $250,000+ [lower price base]

This sale had 28 yearlings sold for $250k+ [lower base point]

◽️Just 6 [21%] of these highest priced 2yo’s have made it onto the track.

◻️Two horses have won a race - GOBI DESERT and NORTH ENGLAND.

◻️North England is the only horse to earn more prize money than his sales cost:

$p/m: $826,000 - Sales Cost $280,000

Syd CLASSIC Yearling Sale 2023

▪️current 3yo age - The “highest priced” yearlings.

♦️yearlings sold for over $250,000+ [lower price base]

“This is not pleasant reading”

❌ I cannot recall seeing data like this….

This sale had 35 yearlings sold for $250k+

🚫Very disappointing that “nil” [0 of 35] of this supposed best bracket have “not” earned more prize money then their sale price - considering they have been of racing age for almost 18 months.

◻️Also poor that 9 of the 35 [25%] have not made it to the races, this late in their 3yo year

◻️Disappointing that 13 or the 26 [50%] to have raced…. Have not won a race yet !

Inglis Syd CLASSIC  2022 - now 4yo

▪️current 4yo age - The “highest priced” yearlings.

♦️yearlings sold for over $250,000+

This sale had 46 yearlings sold for $250k+ [lower base price sale]

◽️45 of these 46 [97%] highest priced [now 4yo’s] made it onto the track, that is the highest ratio of any sale over the last 4 years.

◻️ 8 of these 45 [17%] horses have earned more prize money than their sales cost.

❌ 10 of the 46 [22%] runners, have not won a race, deep into their 4yo year.

❌ 15 of the 46 [32%], have only won 1 race

🕳️ so 25 of 46 [54%] highest priced yearlings at this sale in 2022 have won only 1 race or less, this deep into their 4yo racing year.

How are these stats/ratios congruous across every sale - the very top end [elite prices, paid and judged by the industry experts] of the sales results are putrid when you measure the “race records” of these highest priced yearlings.

Inglis Syd CLASSIC 2021 - now 5yo

▪️current 5yo age - The “highest priced” yearlings.

♦️yearlings sold for over $300,000+

This sale had only 27 yearlings sold for $250k+ [lower base price sale]

◽️26 of them [96%] of these highest priced graduates [now 5yo] have made it onto the track.

◻️Fairly low number - 5 of the 26 [19%] have earned more prize money then their sales cost

❌ 6 of the 26 [23%] runners, have not won a race, deep into their 5yo year.

❌ another 6 of the 26 [23%], have only won 1 race

🕳️ so almost 50% of the highest priced [now 5yo’s] from this sales draft have not won more than 1 race….. C’mon, what is happening from a racing perspective on these top priced yearlings - their race records leave you “gobsmacked
